OAP knocked down by police car

Mar 21 2013

An elderly man has been knocked down by a police car.

The incident happened at about 8.30am on Thursday on an unclassified road between the A96 and Chapel of Garioch in Aberdeenshire.

Grampian Police said the marked car was on patrol in the area when it hit the man.

He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and is said to be in a serious, but not life-threatening, condition.

The road is closed while officers investigate what happened.

"Inspector Ewan Innes, from the road policing unit, is currently at scene along with divisional officers and members of the force collision investigation unit. As is normal practice, a full inquiry into the circumstances will take place," a force spokesman said.
