Man, 37, dies after flats fire

Mar 4 2013

A 37-year-old man has died in a fire at a block of flats.

A second man, aged 64, was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation following the blaze in Restalrig Road by Leith, in Edinburgh, shortly before 4am.

Lothian and Borders Police said the victim died at the scene.

An investigation is under way into the cause of the fire, which is not believed to be suspicious.

The blaze was reported by a passing policeman who noticed smoke coming from the second-floor flat.

"Police responded to a fire in Restalrig Road, Edinburgh at 4am. A 37-year-old man died at the scene and a 64-year-old man has been taken to hospital. Investigations are at an early stage to establish the cause of the fire," a police spokesman said.
