Highland councillors have approved construction plans for a major hydroelectric station.
Energy firm SSE wants to build the 600MW plant at Coire Glas, near Spean Bridge in Lochaber.
The plans feature a dam and reservoir, an underground waterway system and power station and a jetty extending 40 metres into Loch Lochy.
Members of the council's south planning application committee visited the site and considered a report by the head of planning and building standards at a meeting.
They agreed with the report's recommendation that no objections be raised against the development, which would take five years to complete.
The final decision will now be made by the Scottish Government.
According to the report, the function of the development is to "extract, store and release energy to or from the electricity transmission system to help balance the supply and demand for power at a national scale".
