20kg of cannabis found in city flat

Oct 30 2012

Three men have been arrested and £100,000-worth of cannabis has been seized in a police raid in Glasgow.

A flat in the Merchant City area was searched by officers from the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency and Strathclyde Police at around 10.30pm on Monday.

Around 20kg of cannabis resin was found and three men, two aged 27 and one aged 28, were arrested and are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Detective Chief Superintendent Athol Aitken said: "Cannabis continues to be the most widely misused controlled drug in Scotland and represents a real threat to Scotland's communities. As a result of this operation a significant quantity of cannabis has been prevented from reaching our streets and affecting the lives of ordinary people and families.

"This level of drug dealing is undertaken by serious organised criminals whose only focus is on profit and power over individuals and communities.

"The Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency work in partnership with Scotland's police forces and other agencies to detect serious drug dealers but also to reduce the harm to our communities.

"The arrests and recovery of drugs on Monday night is an example of this and again emphasises law enforcement's determination to tackle serious organised crime at all levels."
