Galloway News

DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY Council have confirmed that an application for a windfarm at Margree has been registered.

North British Windpower Ltd. want to build 25 turbines on the site.

It’s close proximity to the proposed development at Blackcraig sparked controversy.

Despite being ruled technically invalid, the council were unable to proceed with a Stewarty Area planning meeting at the start of the month.

The council were advised that there was the possibility of a judicial challenge in relation to the Margree application.

The council’s Area planning manager Ronnie Irving said: “An application for Margree has been registered.

“We now await correspondence for those with views on the proposals.”

A spokesman for NB Windpower Ltd. said: “We are convinced that the Margree site affords an opportunity for the council to deliver a significant contribution to the nation’s renewable energy requirement without unnecessarily damaging the profile of the eastern Glenkens.”

Mr Irving also said that there has been no further developments in the Blackcraig application.

He has written to both the Scottish Executive and Scottish and Southern Energy asking for a three-month extension of the consultation period which has an October 31 deadline.

“There is no additional news to report in terms of Blackcraig at this stage,” added Mr Irving.
