WALLETS Marts Castle Douglas Limited continued their fortnightly cattle sales on Monday, August 16.
A plainer show of store cattle were presented to the usual ringside of bidders. Good quality sorts maintained recent rates with better end of bullocks making in excess of £300 over their weight. Topping the sale at £798 were a pen of Limousin bullocks from C Birrell & Co, Barnboard, Bridge of Dee. This was followed at £760 for Salersx bullocks from A & F Baillie, Camrie, Glenluce. Top price per kilo in the bullock section was 185.9p paid to J & A McCulloch, Glentoo for a pen of Limousin crosses. Heifers sold well to a top of £835 and 200.3p for British Blue crosses from A & F Baillie, Camrie, Glenluce. Next top was £795 for another pen of British Blues from the same home. Overall averages levelled at 156.6p for bullocks and 148.8p for heifers.
OTM cattle sold to 128p for an overage Simmental heifer from Meikle Kirkland, with cows to 118p from Barnboard for a Limousin. Top price per head of £1247.40 was for a Limousin bull from Disdow.
