KIRKCUDBRIGHT parish church flower festival, held in the church from May 23 to 26 with the theme of ‘favourite hymns’ was judged a great success.
Many people, visitors and local people alike, expressed generous praise for the arrangements, which included an arrangement in the Precentor’s Box by Addie Clarkson, festival organiser, celebrating this year’s 125th anniversary of the Boys Brigade, with the hymn ‘Will your anchor hold.’
The flower arrangers included Marian Dixon, Mary Dow, Sylvia Hastings, Kathreen Hope Dunbar, Jane King, May Lockhart, Fiona Michie, Rosemary Rowan, Sadie Whyte, with Audrey Pointon lending a helping hand with preparing the flowers prior to their arranging.
The Sunday school children excelled themselves with arrangements on the hymn ‘All things bright and beautiful’. Kathleen Greer and Moira Troup delighted folk with their clarsach playing and the Church’s organist, Angus Dick had people enthralled.
There were a band of willing helpers on hand in the church hall throughout the festival to provide teas and coffees. The church’s fabric fund will benefit to the extent of £209.30.
