So, Scotland Week and Tartan Day have come and gone. My delegation and I flew to New York for one night followed by two nights in Toronto, one in Ottawa, two in Washington and two more in New York. Great schedule for a holiday you might well think, but, believe me, a heck of a schedule for what we were trying to achieve. My delegates had their own agenda, but mine included two speeches a day, constant shaking of hands and meeting of new people, three parliamentary appearances in Toronto, Ottawa and Washington, receptions, buffets, dinners, three church services and a severe throat infection! That probably explains why I got home feeling utterly exhausted and in need of the second week of recess to get back into the groove. more
